An old favorite for dinner

Charles made his special chili tonight.  Smoked on the grill, this chili is rich and full of peppers, tomatoes and beans.  We make our own chili powder blend. It is a smoother blend than most commercial chili powders.

Every time he opened the door to tend the pot on the fire the whole house filled with the scent of smoke and chili. I tried to nap while he cooked. But every time that aroma flooded in it woke me. I was so anxious for dinner.

The cornbread is Charles's favorite, I make it every time we make chili or pinto beans. It's full of chunks of very sharp cheddar and diced jalapeƱo peppers. As a base for all stews and chilis it rocks!
