The moldy washer
In recent years we have used the front loading washers for our laundry. They are much more effective and efficient. However if they are not allowed to air dry they can really stink.
The rubber gasket around the door conceals a drain that helps the seal dry more quickly.

It is a small drain. Hair and lint clog it quickly. When that happens mold developes. Look at the left hand side of this picture. Mold.
The drain needs to be cleaned out in every wash day. I also keep a spray bottle of water and bleach blend to kill the mold on the inside and outside of the gasket.
Preventing the odor can be restricted if after all wash is completed leave the washer door open just a bit. If the washing drum and gasket are allowed to air dry the mold has no dampness to grow in.
I am finding that when I follow this plan it works pretty well.
